The 641,000 square foot warehouse on Middle Road proposed by NorthPoint Development of Kansas City, Missouri will be reviewed by Suffolk County Planning Commission Wednesday at 2 p.m. The meeting will take place via Zoom. (See Zoom credentials below.)
Riverhead Logistics Center is a 520 foot by 1,232 foot, 50 foot high warehouse proposed for 39.7 acres of vacant industrial estate on Middle Road, opposite Twomey Avenue. The proponent proposes to expand both the Riverhead Water District and the Riverhead Sewer District to serve the facility.
The Riverhead Planning Board has classified the proposed action as a “Type I” action for purposes of the state’s Environmental Quality Review Act, requiring a coordinated review. As a result, the application was referred to the Suffolk County Planning Commission. The Planning Council is seeking lead agency status for the review of the proposal.
The tenant or tenants of the establishment have not yet been determined, according to the request pending before the municipality. The use of a warehouse is permitted as of right in the use district of industrial zoning A, where the site is located.
The site is located in a potential environmental justice zone, according to the planning commission‘s meeting notice.

“In accordance with Suffolk County Planning Commission policy, any information to be submitted to the Planning Commission will not be accepted at the meeting unless it has been acknowledged by the local referring municipality”, according to the notice of meeting.
“The information must be accompanied by a letter from the local municipality of reference describing this content, as well as instructions for handling the material already submitted. This policy has been instituted to avoid confusion as to what information is reviewed by all agencies,” the notice states.
