MCCRACKEN COUNTY, KY – Jeff Parker has announced he will run for re-election as District 2 Commissioner in the McCracken County Tax Court.

Parker has served on the tax court since 2019.

In an announcement shared with Local 6 on Tuesday night, Parker said one of his top priorities as commissioner is to ensure the safety of those who live in McCracken County.

“This was accomplished in part by securing a pay rise for the Sheriff’s Department and McCracken County Jail workers. It helps the county attract and retain the best in these very important positions,” Parker writes.

The commissioner said other priorities for the tax court included modernizing the E911 system and economic development, such as the outdoor sports complex project on the former Bluegrass Downs site.

“I think our announcement of the conversion of Bluegrass Downs into a new sports complex is a big step forward in moving McCracken County forward. This project will have a major impact on securing our future. It will provide a positive outlet for our young people, ”said Parker. writing. “This should help secure the future of our tourism and provide economic benefits to local businesses – restaurants, hotels and retail – through increased consumer traffic. Increasing the number of visitors is an important step in increasing economic development – if they have come here, they will be able to consider us for future development plans. “

McCracken County Executive Judge Craig Clymer is also running for re-election. District 1 Commissioner Bill Bartleman announced his candidacy for re-election last week. District 3 Commissioner Eddie Jones told Local 6 on Friday that he is considering running for county attorney, saying he will decide whether he will seek the post or stand for re-election by Oct. 15.

As for the challengers in these tax court races, the Paducah Sun reports that local real estate agent Matt Moore has filed a letter of intent to run for executive judge. The newspaper reports that Dustin Havens of Heartland Equality is running for District 1 commissioner.
