Clear Lake President Announces Bid for Sherburne County Commissioner

Clear Lake Township President Gary Gray has announced his candidacy for Sherburne County District 4 Commissioner following last week’s announcement that longtime commissioner Felix Schmiesing retires at the end of his term.

Gray was elected to the township council in 2004 and has served as its president since 2011. While on council, Gray coordinated the construction of a new town hall and the Clear Lake Township Park.

“As a longtime resident of Sherburne County, I am proud of the growth of our county and the opportunities shared by my fellow citizens,” Gray said in a press release.

“Outgoing Commissioner Schmiesing leaves an outstanding legacy of leadership for the residents of District 4 and Sherburne County. As Commissioner of District 4, I will build on Mr. Schmiesing’s legacy and successes,” Gray said. “My eighteen years of experience on Clear Lake Township Council have given me the opportunity to meet and work with the residents of Clear Lake Township on initiatives that are important to our residents. If I am elected, I will work diligently for the residents of Sherburne County District 4, and for all residents of Sherburne County. I will work with my fellow citizens to understand the initiatives, projects and issues that are important to them and continue to move Sherburne County forward.”

Gray is a graduate of St. Cloud Technical High School and St. Cloud Technical College. In addition to serving on the Clear Lake Township Council, Gray has served on the Sherburne County Planning and Zoning Board, Clearview Elementary Site Board, Clearwater Library Board, and Buildings Task Force. and St. Cloud’s District 742 facilities, among others.

A retired specialty crop farmer, Gray was co-owner of Gray Potato Farm and Grayson’s Berryland. He also served on the administrative and executive committees of Potatoes USA for 12 years.

Gray has been married to his wife, Ann, for more than 33 years and is the proud parent of two adult children, a son-in-law and a grandson, according to his press release.
